Beauty review roundup

The best blushes, in plain English

A little blush makes a whole face look brighter. We read editor tests and makeup artist picks and boiled them down. Easy cream, liquid and stick blushes came out on top, and all three cost under $30.

Before you buy: 3 quick checks

Pick the formula, then the shade.

Powder, cream or liquid

Powder blush suits oily skin and goes on with a brush. Cream and liquid blushes melt into skin for a fresh look and suit normal to dry skin. Sticks are the fastest: swipe on and blend with fingers.

Picking a shade

Soft pinks suit fair skin. Peaches and corals suit medium and warm skin. Deeper berries and brick reds suit deep skin. A shade close to someone's natural flush after exercise always looks natural.

Start small

Liquid blush is strong, so start with one dot per cheek and blend before adding more. Put cream and liquid blush on before any powder, and powder blush after.
