The best rice cookers, in plain English

Before you buy: 3 quick checks

Size and "smart" features make the biggest difference.

Cups are confusing

Rice cooker cups are smaller than a regular measuring cup (about 3/4 cup). A "5.5-cup" cooker makes about 10 cups of cooked rice, plenty for a family.

What "fuzzy logic" means

Fuzzy logic or Micom cookers have a small computer that adjusts the heat as the rice cooks. They make better rice, especially brown rice, than simple on-off cookers.

Rinse first

Rinsing white rice until the water runs mostly clear removes extra starch, so the rice comes out fluffy instead of gummy.
